Owned Boy

There has been of late, an awful lot of discourse in and around the House concerning the Leather community, it’s traditions, earning leather, etc. Although i am not, and never have been (but may be becoming) interested in being a leatherman, i have long espoused, and lived,  the core beliefs of the Leather community, i.e. honor, integrity, honesty, respect and loyalty.  i am, however, faced now with an ethical dilemma.  i have recently returned to motorcycle riding as a hobby, and am concerned about safety. Therefore, when i ride, i wear leather…a jacket, gloves, boots, and in colder weather, chaps. Leather saves skin in the event of a crash. Also,  i had been looking forward to participation in rides with BDSM related motorcycle groups, of which there is a local one which rides regularly, and with taking my bike to BDSM events.  Since the awakening of Leather as an interest in the House, i somehow don’t feel right about wearing leather to such venues. Although my reason for wearing leather has nothing to do with the Leather community, i may be perceived by others as belonging to the leather community, and as having earned my leather, simply by virtue of the fact that i am wearing leather at a BDSM venue. i do not wish to be perceived as something i am not, nor as having earned anything i haven’t, particularly in something as important as this.  If i become a leatherman simply to be able to ride my bike to such events, i will be the worst of hypocrites, betraying all of the principles held dear by the Leather community.  my only alternatives are to either become a leatherman through a sincere desire to do so (which isn’t there yet), or to give up riding the bike to BDSM venues.  i suspect the latter will, of necessity, be my choice.
